Betby set us two tasks in Lisbon. The first: film their sponsorship of the SBC Football Championship on 23 September, from the match at the Benfica training ground to the awards at Estádio da Luz. The second: show how they work a stand, across the three days of SBC Summit from 24 to 26 September.
We covered both: 5 hours on championship day and half a day on every expo day.
What Betby booked us for
At the stadium the priority was clear: Betby sponsored the championship, so the sponsorship had to carry the film. Their logo ran on the stadium screens, the squad played in branded kit, their CMO handed out the awards next to a Portuguese football legend, and the film had to hold all of that. At the summit the brief pointed the same way: their branding carried the stand, and the coverage had to show it working for three days.
23 September at Estádio da Luz
Five hours of filming on championship day came back as two things: the championship highlight film below, and the autograph session with Nuno Gomes.
5 hours of filming cut to the sponsorship story.
Getting in
The teams arrived at the Benfica training ground, picked up their kit and walked out through the Benfica tunnel. We shot the whole approach before a single ball moved.
The sponsorship on screen
This is the block Betby paid for. The logo took the stadium jumbotron, the ring board carried the brand line through the evening, and the trophy table stood under a Betby screen in the lounge.
The squad on the pitch
Betby got the empty stadium to themselves before kick-off. We shot the team on the grass, in the stands and in the kit that carried the brand for the rest of the day.
The match
The match ran the full length and we shot all of it. The photo set keeps more than the film does, because a stills gallery has room an edit never has.
The awards and Nuno Gomes
The ceremony ran in the stadium lounge. Nuno Gomes handed the trophies to the players, signed Benfica shirts for the queue, and met Pierre Pulis, Betby's Chief Marketing Officer, at the sponsor wall. This is the longest stretch of the video.
The afterparty
The lounge above the pitch closed the day: catering, toasts, and the first conversations between the sponsors while the stadium lights came down behind the glass.
The same day cut vertical for social. Same story, one third of the length.
24–26 September at SBC Summit
Three days at Feira Internacional de Lisboa, half a day on the floor each day. We shot the stand from the half-built shell to the last meeting. Photos went over during the day, edited and ready to post as they came. The Reel from each day went live the next morning, in time to pull people to the stand.
From a half-built shell
We came by on 22 September, a day before the stadium, to catch the stand while it was still going up. By the opening bell the shell had become a stand.
The whole team
One frame with everybody in it, shot before the floor filled up. It is the photo the client uses everywhere afterwards, so it gets taken on day 1 and not left to the last afternoon.
One Reel per day
Each Reel was edited on site and went live the next morning: day 1 ahead of day 2, day 2 ahead of day 3.
What the stand was for
The stand ran on meetings. We photographed the demos on screen, the handshakes across the table and the conversations that ran past their slot, across all three days.
The product, close up
Screens photograph badly at an expo: reflections, moving hands, mixed light. We shot the sportsbook on a laptop, a tablet and a phone so the client got usable product frames without a studio.
The caricature queue
Betby put an artist on the stand and gave every visitor a drawn badge. The queue held people in place long enough for the sales team to reach them, and it gave us the warmest frames of the three days.
The Sports Betting stage
On the opening day Betby took the Sports Betting stage, sponsored under their own name. We shot the panel from the room and the speaker close up, so the client left with the context and the close-ups both.
Three days on the floor
Between meetings we shot the crew at work: the camera rig, the interview corner, and the last hugs as the show closed.
The recap video
One horizontal video carries the whole expo: the stand, the meetings and the floor. Betby had it on the schedule they asked for. In the package today a recap like this lands within three days of the last day on site.
